My paintings are a self-consciousness reflection of periods throughout my life. The memory of my past is represented by my characteristic painting process of layering, removing, reworking and covering repetitively. Then I own my life and myself and attempt to expose my notion of ‘time’ on the surface of the painting using horizontal brushstrokes. The images are drawn from my own personal photographs as a way to explore the link between the photographic image, memory and time.
Boundaries and borders intrigue me along with the development of memory and the notion of representing time by painting. My past memories remain as an image in the photography. An outline of the figure is all that exists of a time where it once was. But in my mind, it still makes an effort to revive feelings and memories. And now I have reproduced another memory by the process of painting on the canvas interacting with the photography.
