Mark McClure is a multi disciplinary artist working from his studio in North East London. Born in the Midlands, UK in 1974 - and trained as a graphic designer, his artwork reflects this design background - blending sculpture and visual arts with graphic & functional design. He has exhibited both in the UK and abroad.
Sensory & physical snapshots of the urban landscapes we have shaped and built up around us. Through the use of found materials, mainly wood and metal, the works give hints of a past
narrative, revealing the layering and history of our environment - whilst the fragmented compositions reference the lines, shapes and structures we inhabit.
Scratched or weathered over the years, painted with layers of colour and branded with symbols and scrawls - these visual remains combine with a sense of structure and dynamism to make up the graphic, abstract works.
With a background in interactive design as well as art - I am also introducing a level of viewer participation. This further represents our own environment whilst also adding the possibility of functionality - exploring our perceptions of value and luxury versus function and utility.
