Van Gogh on a mug....
I have just seen a Van Gogh printed on a mug whilst reading great quote by Clive Bell
' The starting point for all systems of aesthetics must be the personal experience of a peculiar emotion...I do not mean that all works provoke the same emotion. On the contrary, every work produces a different emotion'
I do completely believe that this is why art that has been created in the 1600s can still be appreciated in the age we live in now!
Art is timeless and will live through the ages for this very reason. Provocation of any emotion is a reason to feel attached to the art work that you are viewing. Whether it is of disgust or happiness the feeling it gives us is one that is relatable and we would have experienced at one point in our life.
The reality of any feeling is always beautiful as it is completely raw and natural!
However does this apply to all art? Even now when we are faced with mass production? Is a Van Gogh still beautiful when the Sunflowers are printed on a mug? Is this still Art? Hmm...
