Introducing Everly Dark
Where do you live? Bristol
Where did you study? Oxford Brookes University – Graduated 2003
How did you get started?
I picked up a paintbrush and began. In the beginning frustration with lack of ability and direction is inevitable, but patience and time and a will to withstand hindrance in one’s own creative thought aspires a great artist.
What can you tell us about your artistic practice?
After finishing my degree in Fine art I had learnt everything I didn't want out of art and began my own journey to circumscribe to everything I did want out of art.
Do you have a routine, or an exercise you have to do get your started?
I have no routine, regimented painting doesn't work for me. I need to be in a certain state of mind to attack my ideas, a strong coffee always helps before I begin. Mornings always work best for me.
What are your ambitions in the art world?
My ambition in art is a simple one. To embrace my imagination and narrate it to the best of my abilities and hopefully inspire others in doing so.
What advice would you give to anyone who is starting out?
Embrace your soul and never let others convince you to tame it to their liking; never conform your vision.
And lastly, choose one word:
Grotesque or beautiful? Grotesque
Urban or surreal? Surreal
Planned or spontaneous? Spontaneous
Monochrome or rainbow? Monochrome
