Introducing... Olivia Yu

Posted on August 22, 2015

Winner of the People’s Choice Award 2014 from the Secret Art Prize that CDG heads, Olivia Yu has been keenly collected with new work being snapped up. Olivia Yu is an abstract painter who studied at Central Saint Martin’s college of Art and Design. Working spontaneously, Yu believes the nature of her painting materials free themselves as they move across the surface to behave how they wish. In doing so, she creates lively yet fluid forms that take on their own life in an abstract world of bright colours and dynamic texture.

Name: Olivia Yu

Discipline: Painter

Age: 23

Where do you live? North London

Where did you study? Central Saint Martins and British Association of Art Therapists.

Life ambition: Sprinkle my art around the world and inspire people.

Briefly, in one sentence tell us about your work?

I chose to communicate with the world through my art, to reflect my thoughts while experimenting with my artistic mediums, challenging the natural behaviour of the paint and its fluidity.

What do you want people to know about your work?

I don't like to force any ideas to influence audiences’ interpretation of the abstracts, for me it needs their imagination to complete the whole experience, making it more personal for all individuals.

What do you hope people take from your work?

Feel positive and hopeful. I wish for audiences to leave feeling involved with the works, by their imaginative interpretation through the abstracts I painted. I want to remind everyone that they are artists too, and not to be afraid of being creative no matter how old we are.

This is incredibly true of your work! Thanks Olivia.
